MEDITERRANEAN WOODFIRED OVENS – QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Can I see examples of ovens installed? Yes, under OVENS in the drop down menu of this website.  
Are your ovens imported or made in Australia? Due to the high demand for our ovens the bulk of our domestic ovens are manufactured to our design and specifications overseas. Our commercial ovens are designed & manufactured in Australia.  
Where can I get a diagram to assist with building the base for the oven? Under INFO on this website  
Do I have to pour my own slab? You can either pour your own slab or you can use a galvanised flat metal sheet and 1 x 18mm (minium)  fibre cement sheeting providing you have something to support it with in the centre.  
Is the oven D.I.Y. Made-Easy or Pre-Built? Our ovens are available in both DIY Made Easy and Prebuilt in various sizes.  
What material is the oven chamber made from? Refractory Clay materials, similar to a commercial kiln. Concrete is not suitable for wood burning ovens.  
Can I have a stainless front arch for aesthetics?
  • We do not do stainless steel fronts on our ovens for a few reasons: Stainless steel can reach burning temperatures while fire is at hottest and one could very easily burn their arm \when adding wood to the chambers or simply leaning against the front chamber.
  • It is not a good conductor of heat and will not retain the heat for any length of time so therefore not good heat retention or fuel efficiency.
  • It will in a very short period of time look terrible as it will stain from the heat and look blackish and cannot be polished up.
  • It does not attach to the render very well and tends to break away from it.
  
Is it cool to touch on the outside? Yes, we use quality insulation materials to ensure our oven is cool to touch, and family safe.  
How long does it take to light and start cooking? Approximately 30-40 minutes to 400 degrees C.  
Does it require cleaning? Only dusting of the floor – get out of the kitchen!  
Does it come with a door and a flue system? Yes. A standard 900mm stainless steel flue with China Hat.  Extensions available.  
Is the oven waterproof? Yes,   but we recommend a coating of Thompson’s Water Seal to be used with our DIY Made Easy or you can purchase our PVC rain jacket  on line for use in the wet season. This ensures greater oven efficiency.  
What can you cook in a woodfired oven? Anything that you can cook in a conventional oven, you can vary the oven temperature. Laser temperature guns available on our on-line shop.  
How long does it take to cook a pizza? 1-2 minutes depending on the temperature and the quanity of toppings.  
How hot is the maximum oven temperature? 800 degrees C  
How many sizes to choose from? 3 residential and 2 commercial.  
Do you supply D.I.Y. Instructions? Yes. Comprehensive D.I.Y. Made-Easy instructions including an easy to follow 15 step DVD.
